Here’s a rundown of the flicks to watch out for!
I. THE REMAKES
Cast: Joel Kinnaman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Michael Keaton, Gary Oldman
Why mess with the almost-perfect 1987 classic? Well for one, special effects these days provide high-octane action the era of cocaine and shoulder pads could never offer.
When standup cop and family-man-of-the-year Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) gets into a near fatal accident, weapons company OmniCorp fuses what’s left of him to some cogs, screws, and heavy artillery to test out a brand new form of police officers. RoboCop (in a killer matte black tactical suit) is born. Shit blows up. We get to see Samuel L. Jackson yell. And Detroit is rid of criminal activity.
Out: February 5
Cast: Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, Bryan Cranston
So the 1998 Matthew Broderick starrer kind of sucked. But who cares, it’s a giant freakin’ lizard! Expect more buildings to be ripped into rubble this time around. But the best part about this unoriginal extravaganza: Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston joins in on the reptilian fun.
Out: May 15
Cast: Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley
