Filipinos have always appreciated what Hollywood has to offer: reality shows, feel-good sitcoms, crime dramas, and award-winning films. And we do so by means of cable television, by pirated DVDs available in Quiapo, or by patterning our own outings by them.

As the award season approaches, several ceremonies give fans the feeling of excitement and anticipation. First on our list – the recently concluded 67th Golden Globe Awards held yesterday (today, January 18 Manila time), where the very best in film and television are celebrated every year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, or HFPA.

While we here at FHM are no award experts, allow us to play critics for a day as we give you our very own hits and misses at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

Best Motion Picture – Drama
And the Golden Globe goes to: Avatar
FHM says: Avatar has enjoyed massive commercial success, has broken several box office records, and is the sole favorite this award season. While fellow nominees The Hurt Locker and Inglorious Basterds caught our attention beforehand, it's just got to be Avatar.

The CG effects are so revolutionary that you simply cannot put it alongside the animated film category. Avatar has the complete package: box office records, award-winning director, box-office friendly actors, and that larger-than-life CGI.

Best Director – Motion Picture
And the Golden Globe goes to: James Cameron, Avatar
FHM says: Having the top 2 highest grossing films of all time must be no fluke. He is undoubtedly the most successful director of the modern era, perhaps of all time. A 10-year hiatus it was for him, but his films and legacy will last 10 times more than that.
