All those standalone primers are about to culminate into this one, big superhero ensemble.
Netflix recently released the official trailer for its upcoming crossover series, Marvel's The Defenders, and the primary takeaway is that this odd group isn't one to mess with.
Each one armed with a compelling backstory, four vigilantes are forced to band together for the sake of New York City. The action-adventure miniseries is set months after events of Daredevil Season 2 and Iron Fist, which gives the shows' viewers an idea of how the story unfolds.
But for those whose curiosity has just been aroused by the crushing blows in the sneak peek or at least the Nirvana soundtrack, a quick intro on Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist is rather fitting.
'The devil of Hell's Kitchen'
The Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox), who is blind lawyer Matt Murdock by day, is living proof that losing one sense heightens the remaining four, which he utilizes to serve his own brand of justice, ironically. Don't worry, no sign of Ben Affleck here.
'The smartass detective'
Think Sherlock Holmes, only hotter, has post-traumatic stress disorder, but could kick some serious butt. Krysten Ritter portrays the ex-superhero who opted for a less complicated life through her detective agency, Alias Investigations.
'The righteous ex-con'
The character (Mike Colter) with the troubled past also possesses superhuman strength and an indestructible dermis, so a voluntary surrender is the only logical explanation for his background as former prisoner Carl Lucas.
'The kid with the glowing fist'
Finn Jones plays rich kid-turned-hard-hitting monk Danny Rand, who wields the power of the Iron Fist. The Defenders sees the youngest martial arts expert mature into this responsible fighter, under the tutelage of Cage.
