The 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival is mere weeks away, and if you're like us, you've probably started to prepare yourself for a week of films that, on the regular, range from bad to not-so-good.
Sometimes though, there are good, memorable ones so every year we continue to ask: Is there hope for this year's festival? Join us as we look for signs by judging this year's crop of MMFF movies by their trailers!
1) Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo
Starring: Robin Padilla, Vina Morales, Daniel Padilla
Directed by: Enzo Williams
First of all, we'd like to know who "Buchi Boy" is.
The Robin Padilla-Vina Morales love team has risen from the dead! #Batang90s
Andres Bonifacio ain't the only gangster around in this movie:
Props to the art department. These suits look snazzy and accurate with the times of this period piece.
The fight scenes look authentic, too. Now, someone make a YouTube edit of this clip with Sandwich's "Sugod" as overlay.
2) English Only, Please
Starring: Derek Ramsay, Jennylyn Mercado
Directed by: Dan Villegas
Once again, who are you, Buchi Boy? E-mail us and let us tell your story to the world.
And now, the many (pretty) faces of Jennyln Mercado. What's your favorite?
a) Excited Jennylyn
b) Flustered Jennylyn
c) Downtrodden Jennylyn
d) Bikini-wearing Jennyln
You know our choice, not-so-gents.
3) Feng Shui 2
Starring: Kris Aquino, Coco Martin
Directed by: Chito Rono
No trailer has been made available for the flick yet so we settled for a video from Kris TV discussing the first shooting day of the movie. In it, we are reminded that Feng Shui is:
And that Kris Aquino is the master of Kris-ception, being interviewed in her very own TV show:
And that Kris Aquino is still the undisputed Queen Of Horror (according to Kris TV):
4) Kubot, The Aswang Chronicles 2
Starring: Dingdong Dantes, Isabelle Daza
Directed by: Erik Matti
If gory vampires were all you wished for this Christmas, this movie is Santa's gift to you.
Witness, bird-eating vampire:
KC Montero vampire (who seems to have been shot by blue paintballs straight in the mouth and is now very angry):
Vampire Jun Sabayton:
And these guys, Ramon Bautista and Bogart (who are not vampires...yet):
5) Muslim Magnum .357
Starring: E.R. Ejercito, Sam Pinto
Directed by: Jun Posadas
You thought we've had enough E.R. Ejercito goodness? We've got more where that came from.
Here he shows us once again, his bandana-wearing skills...
...and kris-wielding proficiency:
Seriously, that's a nice kris.
6) My Big Bossing's Adventures
Starring: Vic Sotto, Ryzza Mae Dizon
Directed by: Joyce Bernal, Marlon Rivera, Tony Reyes
We don't know how funny The Annual Vic Sotto Money Collection Project will be this year, but one thing's for sure: Ryzza Mae is still Philippine Showbiz's most adorable child star.
We say, watch her now before the cuteness gives way to (gasp!) puberty!
7) Praybeyt Benjamin 2
Starring: Vice Ganda, Richard Yap
Directed by: Wenn Deramas
You're probably wondering why the screen-caps look all messed up and why there's a huge "Kyle Laurence" on the images. It's because no official trailer has been released on YouTube for the movie, and the only one we found was this clip that looked like it was taken from a theater screening.
