2017 is poised to be a big year for cinephiles, especially coming off one of the Metro Manila Film Festival's better editions in recent memory.
In fitting fashion, Netflix is continuing the trend of topnotch creative content with the unveiling of its latest original film, Mute.
With Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) at the helm, the futuristic thriller tells the story of mute bartender Leo (played by Alexander Skarsgård) looking for his girlfriend Naadirah (Seyneb Saleh, who looks fine BTW). His search brings him to unfamiliar territory, where he engages two comical rogue surgeons (Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux).
"Mute is an encapsulation of everything I am fascinated by; noir, science fiction, and unique people in trouble because of who and what they are," Jones explained. I'm delighted to be able to return to Berlin for the shoot, a place I lived for a period of time growing up, and I'm excited to be working with Netflix on a film that is so close to my heart."
He assured, "It is unlike any other science fiction being made today."
For its part, Netflix definitely knows how to build anticipation, letting us in on some exclusive photos from the theatrical masterpiece:
Written by Jones and Michael Robert Johnson, Mute is produced by Stuart Fenegan and executive produced by Charles J.D. Schissel and Trevor Beattie. It is set to be released this year in all countries where Netflix is available.
