'Once Upon A Deadpool' May Not Have Been Ryan Reynolds' Idea

The Merc With The Mouth remains true to its meta nature as Ryan Reynolds and company repackage Deadpool 2 into a PG-13 cut, Once Upon A Deadpool. Of course, the internet was caught by surprise when the trailer popped out of nowhere.

And yes, you saw (and heard) that right, the boys are back in business as the whole thing becomes framed as a fairy tale told to (a now grown) Fred Savage, a deliberate and hilarious nod to The Princess Bride.

But there’s some weird controversy surrounding this whole thing now with the emergence of a December 7, 2017 tweet from Twitter user MVBramley to Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds.

We know! It’s the exact same thing! And if we’re in the correct timeline here, this tweet came shortly after news broke that Disney was considering acquiring 20th Century Fox, which then sparked a ton of ideas about collaborations between Fox and Marvel’s superheroes. Of course, the wildcard was Deadpool, who, as we all know, doesn’t handle PG-13 quite as good as he handles the R-Rated universe.

Talking to Slashfilm, however, Deadpool 2 co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick recalled that Ryan Reynolds came up with the idea.

“We were kicking around some ideas and then I think it was Ryan [Reynolds] who had the great framing device and we all got excited and went to the studio.”

But MVBramley wishes Ryan didn’t just use his idea as Ryan’s own because he “fuckin’ loves Ryan Reynolds.” But who doesn’t, right?
