Arr matey! Shiver me timbers! Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opens tomorrow, 20 May, giving way for more action and adventure care of everyone’s favorite rum-chugging, swashbuckling, womanizing pirate, Jack Sparrow.
Director Rob Marshall (Chicago) takes over Gore Verbinski's captain's seat in the fourth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, a movie franchise based on a Disneyland ride. In their search for the mysterious fountain of youth, Jack Sparrow and Barbossa learn that Captain Black Beard and his daughter are out to claim it for themselves as well.
Four things about the latest installment of Pirates: 1. Orlando Bloom is nowhere to be found. 2. So is Keira Knightley, she's not here, no. 3. But, Penelope Cruz is and that is most welcome. 4. Johnny Depp reprises the role that made the franchise a veritable treasure chest.
Depp revealed in an interview that Disney did not actually approve of his rendition of Sparrow on the first film. Well, those bilge rats and scallywags couldn’t have gotten it more wrong: the Sparrow Depp has brought to the table is the reason the films have yet to hit Davey Jones’ Locker. Known for contorting his face in numerous ways, Depp has made Sparrow both a vehicle for comedy and kookiness.
So hoist the colors, clear the deck and get ready to set sail as we pay tribute to Jack Sparrow’s many loony expressions and when ya should or ya shouldn’t use them!
