Superheroes, may it be in comic books, TV shows, or the movies, have this aura of immortality that tells you they're gonna get up no matter what, even if they're on the receiving end of an epic ass-whoopin'. Just ask Son Goku.
Sometimes though, this "bida eh" effect fails us, and what we're about to tell you might just be one of these sad and rare times. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans, if you don't want any spoilers or to shed a tear, look away... N-O-W!!!

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #44 comic, something bad happened, and we really mean OMFG-level bad. The latest edition of the popular comic book series written by Tom Waltz and TMNT co-creator Kevin Eastman features a save-the-world battle between Shredder, Krang, and our heroes in a half-shell.
Three of the turtles—Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo—were trying to stop the villain Krang (that gross brain-like thing that resides within the transparent tummy of a humanoid exo-suit) from terraforming the planet. The fourth member, Donatello, was left in the Turtle's HQ—which proved to be deadly.

Shredder seized the opportunity and deployed two of his henchmen, Bebop and Rocksteady, to go after Donnie. The duo were able to enter our heroes' home base and engaged the lone turtle. Donnie fought gallantly, but they proved to be too much and, in the end, a powerful smash from Rocksteady's sledgehammer to the turtle's shell proved to be fatal. The two left Donnie in a bloody mess.
The next part had the TMNT fanbase crying and asking, "Is he dead?"

Is TMNT now officially a trio? Or will the "I'm-a-superhero-so-I-can't-die" factor be called upon anew? New evidence floating in the interwebs provides tantalizing clues; we'll know for sure once #45 comes out.
Now if you'll excuse us, we have to look for some Dragon Balls. Get up, Donnie!
