Comic book geeks rejoice! After two Iron Man movies, a double recasting of The Hulk, a film each for Thor and Captain America, The Avengers has finally arrived! It premiered around the globe yesterday, April 25.

After seeing Marvel’s The Avengers on IMAX and in 3D– the best way to experience this blockbuster blowout – the word "teamwork" resonates. It did take a great collaboration to create the highly anticipated superhero action flick.

After being exiled from Asgard, trickster god Loki (Tom Hiddleston) has set his sights on taking over planet Earth. With the help of the tesseract, a cube of unlimited energy, he opens a portal to outer space. This allows an alien race called the Chitauri to infiltrate Manhattan and unleash destruction of epic proportions. Special faction S.H.I.E.L.D., led by the eye patch-wearing Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), wrangles in the superheroes to protect the human race from evildoers.

The dream team is comprised of billionaire playboy philanthropist Tony Stark’s Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Son of Odin, Thor (Chris Hemsworth); beef-cake Captain America (Chris Evans); the brainy and mighty Hulk (Mark Ruffalo); sexy femme fatale Black Widow (Scar Jo); and master archer Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

It would be any director’s dream (and worst nightmare) to work with such a stellar cast. But it could also be any director's possible worst nightmare. The Avenger's adapted material has a fan base that could and would rip you apart should he murder their beloved characters. Thankfully, the man at the helm, Joss Whedon delivered. And delivered good, he did.

Next: Why The Avengers is one hell of a movie.
