While everyone else is taking advantage of 3D, IMAX, and 4D—even 4DX—formats, Ocean's trilogy director Steven Soderbergh went against the flow in his latest silver-screen offering.
The psychological horror-thriller Unsane is about a woman (played by Claire Foy of Netflix's The Crown) who ends up in a mental institution after the authorities weren't convinced that she was being bothered by an online stalker. Sawyer Valentini's confinement turns into hell when the obssession over her becomes all too real.
Even at 720p, the trailer gives off a feel similar to that of found footage films, which are usually genuinely terrifying. Although, in Unsane, image quality is the last thing you'll notice while watching the gripping mind-fuck unfold.
“I look at this as potentially one of the most liberating experiences that I’ve ever had as a filmmaker,” Soderbergh was quoted by The Verge. “This, to me, is a new chapter.”
Unsane, which also stars Joshua Leonard, Jay Pharoah, Juno Temple, Aimee Mullins and Amy Irving, will open in cinemas on March 21
