This 20-minute short film by the makers of the heart-wrenching Heneral Luna and the upcoming Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral connects the two stories together by following the brothers, Major Manuel Bernal and Captain Jose Bernal, two days after Heneral Luna was assassinated by President Emilio Aguinaldo’s men in the first movie.
They find out their beloved general was dead when their brother, Angel, found them hiding in a cave after the two escaped, together with Joven Hernando, from the soldiers of Gregorio del Pilar. Of course, the actors for those characters came back to reprise their roles like Aaron Villaflor, Arthur Acuña, and Alex Medina. But new characters have debuted as well, introducing Carlo Aquino and Rafa Siguion Reyna, with the latter playing a significant character for the next film. If you want to find out who he is, just watch it here!
This short tells a lot about how Paulo Avelino’s Gregorio del Pilar will be portrayed in his solo film that hits cinemas September 5. It’s pretty obvious that Goyo is a loyal general under President Aguinaldo’s regime. And right now, that doesn’t paint a good image of the young general, as he is following, as Major Manuel Bernal said, an "idol" and not a "leader."
So maybe we can infer that Goyo is set to be a blind follower, who may or may not have his eyes opened as to who Aguinaldo really is.
For now, all we can do is speculate, or completely base it on the history books. But we think it’s safer we don’t expect or assume anything just yet. Where’s the fun in that?
