The groundbreaking film Avatar is getting not one, not two, not even three, but four movie sequels and they’re going to hit theaters in the near future.
We know it’s going to be a long wait ,but that’s the amount of time it takes for legendary director James Cameron to deliver his masterpieces to the silver screen.
Thankfully though, the Avatar team finally revealed that the much-awaited Avatar 2 sequel will hit theaters on December 18, 2020.
It will be followed by three other sequels to make up an Avatar pentalogy on:
-December 17, 2021
-December 20, 2024
-December 19, 2025
Actor Sam Worthington, who plays the lead role of marine veteran turned Na’vi tribe leader Jake Sully, earlier revealed that the story for the sequels will be about his extraterrestrial family in the entrancing planet of Pandora.
Worthington along with co-stars Zoe Saldana (Neytiri), Sigourney Weaver (Grace) and Stephen Lang (Colonel Miles Quaritch) are also reportedly reprising their respective roles.
Avatar premiered back in 2009 and is one of the first films to utilize the revolutionary 3D technology. It also became the highest grossing movie of all time following its release after making $2.7 billion.
The story revolves around the Na’vi, a humanoid alien race native to Pandora, with human protagonist Jake falling in love with one of the locals. He ends up defecting against his own kind to protect the Na’vi from resource-greedy humans who are destroying the planet.
Fans have eagerly been waiting for the sequel, which has been pushed back on countless occasions.
For now, you can keep yourself occupied with this trailer of an Avatar game in partnership with Ubisoft, which will bring the world of Pandora to life in 2018.
