Talk about timeless. The duo of Roland Orzabal and Curtis Smith, known collectively as Tears For Fears, performed in Manila two years ago to a sold-out crowd of music lovers who grew up in the 80s. The band was at the forefront of the New Wave movement of that time, but has since evolved into a pop-rock outfit that has stood the test of time.
Now they’re back as Ovation Productions bring them to our shores for a second go. They will be performing on August 10 and 11, 2012 at The Big Dome, and then again for a final encore at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino on August 12. The concert will also feature a contemporary of theirs, Per Sorensen of Fra Lippo Lippi, who brought us karaoke-tested favorites, “Beauty & Madness,” and “Everytime I See You.”
More than 30 years after Tears For Fears’ debut album, The Hurting, released in 1981, the band continues to draw crowds and make an impact.
This time, in light of the massive Habagat-caused devastation, their impact will not be limited to making a crowd of nostalgic Filipinos break into tears singing along to “Mad World;” they will also be providing a helping hand to ongoing relief operations.
In Curtis Smith’s website, it has been announced that Tears For Fears will be donating proceeds from merchandise sales at their August 10 & 11 shows. So, when you score a sweet TFS shirt, you’re essentially helping out too!
To get us ready for their concert, let's revisit some of the band's biggest hits that we've chosen to give us a boost amid this post-Habagat commotion!
