Gentlemen, ladies, and all of you loud and proud Pinoy rockers in the world, listen up. Legendary Wolfgang frontman Basti Artadi needs all of us to rock with him to address a medical emergency.
In a Facebook post he penned Tuesday, June 21, Artadi revealed that he has been dealing with the ill effects of a tumor in his head since 2009. "This tumor," he relates, "is on the nerves that control the right side of my face, which is what is causing the paralysis."
This didn't stop him from rocking out, though. Artadi "had to relearn how to sing with a paralyzed mouth and the fatigue that comes with it."
An FHM favorite, Artadi faced the challenge head on, continued gigging and making music with the band and as a solo artist. He even found time hosting Tropical Banter on YouTube with Razorback pal Tirso Ripoll, with whom he performed this hilariously maddening take on a Carly Rae Jepsen's massive 2012 hit.
All these activities, however, took their toll on Artadi and his condition is turning for the worse.
He writes: "Because one side of my facial muscles are working more than the other the inevitable result is that my mouth is slowly being pulled to one side and the doctors have said that I will eventually not be able to talk much less sing."
Thankfully, all is not lost. According to his doctors, a procedure called the "facial sling" can help alleviate his condition temporarily.
To help cover the costs of the procedure, Artadi has designed shirts for sale that bears his image—"which I thought would be a good symbol for me getting back the lost symmetry...so, no, it's not because I'm full of myself."
