If anything, 2012 has been nothing short of punishing to the wallets of Pinoy music fans. Manila has become a hotbed for concerts.
Only two months have passed since the New Year but already we’ve seen the likes of Katy Perry, Toro Y Moi, punk hardcore outfit Four Year Strong, metal heads Lamb of God, and even Engelbert Humperdinck. It’s a sumptuous buffet with something for everyone. And this feast isn’t about to end.
We’ve already circled March 5 on our calendars because that’s the date when indie rock favorites Death Cab for Cutie will be having their one-night only performance at the NBC Tent at The Fort. Following the release of their latest album in May 2011, Codes and Keys, Death Cab For Cutie has gone on full-touring mode, and lucky us, they’re making a stop here.
Comprised of Chris Walla on guitars, bassist Nick Harmer, vocalist Ben Gibbard (who recently had a divorce with Zooey Deschanel), and Jason McGerr on drums, the band hit it big on the radars of music lovers everywhere when they released Transatlanticism back in 2004. It was a masterful record, drawing listeners in with melancholic, softly-sung tunes including “Title and Registration,” “The Sound of Settling,” and the title track itself.
Since then, they have released three more albums, and a number of hits such as “Soul Meets Body” and “I Will Possess Your Heart.” By the titles alone, it’s easy to see how the band’s music found its way to the playlists of anyone who’s fond of going into a senti soundtrip one rainy afternoon.
Sampol? Well, here’s one:
