The term "Best Band Ever" gets thrown around a lot these days, but calling the Eraserheads as such is far from hyperbole. They were the voice of an entire Filipino generation, whose songs have left an indelible mark—many of which still resonate to this very day.
Today, in light of the release of their two new songs "1995" and "Sabado" via a special CD inclusive with the September 2014 issue of Esquire Philippines, we turn the #Throwback spotlight on the quartet that is Ely, Raimund, Marcus, and Buddy and the songs that we once played and rewound over and over again.
Of course, the problem with making an Eraserheads playlist is that...there are just too many good songs. Here we narrow down our mixtape to a 10-song set that we'd offer as a gift to a girl whose heart we're trying to win over. The 'Heads have barkada songs, songs about Christmas treats, driving songs, but for our purposes today, we're homing in on songs that would make her fall for you.
Listen up, young ones; postpone the EDM fist-pumping because it's these classics that might just melt her heart!
But before that, let's check out an interview with "We-ain't-taking-our-shades-off" Eraserheads on '90s variety program, GMA Supershow regarding their new single "Ang Huling El Bimbo":
- Host: "Sino ba gumawa nito ['Ang Huling El Bimbo']?"
Ely: "Uhh, ako."
Host: "Ah, ikaw. Ang galing."
- BMG Managing Director Rudy Ty: "On behalf of BMG, we would like to award Eraserhead for outstanding sales of Caterpillar in just two months."
And now, the songs:
1) "Ligaya" (Ultraelectromagneticpop!, 1993)
Put it in because: It doesn't get more straightforward than "Sagutin mo lang ako, aking sinta'y walang humpay, na ligaya." Kung ayaw niya, eh di 'wag; kumanta ka na lang at kumain ng isaw.
