Quark's 5 Songs for NU 107

This is our last goodbye

NU 107 signed off for good last Sunday November 7. Hundreds of fans, followers, and friends went to the station's Ortigas HQ to say goodbye, say their thanks, and witness a painful goodbye. It was almost like a funeral, candles and all.

Days before the sign off, listeners discussed on various social networks what the last song would be played. It turned out to be "Ang Huling El Bimbo." A fitting ending, yes.

Below is the video of station head honcho Chris Hermosisima doing the final sign off, two minutes before going off-air. Bittersweet and never lacking finality.

The next day, FHM gets a hold of direk Quark Henares, son of NU owner Atom Henares and a mainstay of the local rock scene, via sms. "It feels like someone died. The day is filled with sighs," he tells FHM. We couldn't agree with him more.

We asked him the five songs he'd dedicate to NU. Here they are:

1. "I don't like Mondays" by The Boomtown Rats. "When NU was starting out, I'd sing this song with my dad and my sister in the car," he explains. Funnily enough, the first day without NU is a Monday.
