Legendary hitmaker Rico J. Puno has passed away to heart failure Tuesday morning. He was 65.

Concert producer Anna Puno confirmed the sad news on Instagram. She wrote, "Numbed with grief, I would like to call on all entertainers in the OPM Industry as well as his worldwide fans to stop for a moment and say a prayer to one of the most respected singers in the country."

According to a report by, Rico J.—who was responsible for the OPM classics "Kapalaran," "Buhay," "The Way We Were, "Macho Gwapito," and "May Bukas Pa"—underwent a seven-hour heart surgery in 2015. He also served multiple terms as councilor of the First District of Makati City, where he was supposed to run for again next year.

Celebrities, especially colleagues in the music industry, paid tribute to one of the most entertainining performers to ever grace the local stage.
