If you think Duster sounds uncannily familiar, say Pedicab-familiar, that’s because at the core of this femme collective are Raimund Marasigan and Lourd de Veyra. The senyores wrote the music and lyrics while the girls, they provide the kind of swagger only girls can bring. The songs are sugar-coated aggressive numbers that may take you aback every now and then. It isn’t so much girl power of the 90s as post-punk revelry. “Balls,” and “Retail Therapy” are very much so in the Marasigan tradition, while “Saksakan” undeniably comes from de Veyra. Duster is comprised of lady mainstays of the scene: Myrene Academia, Kris Gorra-Dancel, Katwo Puertollano, and Ristalle Bautista. -Lou Albano
