Remember '90s OPM? Back then, cassettes, song hits, and dingy bars were just some of your favorite things. With a guitar in hand, you tried to mimic your idol’s strumming skills. And probably, at least once in your life, you wished you were actually the one onstage, head-bangin’ to the music in your very own band. Dong Abay, Glenn Jacinto, Basti Artadi—they were your heroes.
To remind you of those good old days, here are nine rockin' '90s hits that we're sure you'll never get tired of. Press play, then repeat!
1) “Banal Na Aso, Santong Kabayo” by Yano
Yano’s original vocalist, Dong Abay just gets that f*ck-this-life-f*ck-everyone feeling you had years ago. With a cigarette in hand, and a beer in the other, you loudly sang “Banal na aso, santong kabayo!” And of course, you had a case of LSS with the line “Hi hi hi hi” as well.
2) “Laklak” by Teeth
The original inuman na anthem! You can’t call yourself a '90s music aficionado if you never—at least once in your life—sang “Laklak” on videoke.
3) “Lakas Tama” by Siakol
And you know what goes with Teeth’s “Laklak?” Siakol’s “Lakas Tama” of course!
4) “Buy One Take Two” by Grin Department
One of the best alternative rock bands during the ‘90s, Grin Department was known for their pilyo lyrics. Remember “Miss, Miss, Sa Loob Ng Jeepney”?
5) “Halik Ni Hudas” by Wolfgang
How many times did you play this hit? Perhaps a hundred, or maybe more. No worries, we’re guilty of that, too. Actually, we just finished raping the repeat button.
6) “Bilog Na Naman Ang Buwan” by Tropical Depression
Filipino reggae at its finest, Tropical Depression was your sound trip during those beach days under the moonlight. That’s why whenever you see the full moon, you can’t help but miss Papa Dom.
7) “Basura” by The Youth
Please remind the younger generation that the “Basura” song is an actual, well, song. Dodong Cruz, you’re the man.
8) “Kung Ayaw Mo Wag Mo” by Rivermaya
"Swabe" best describes this ‘90s Rivermaya hit. And, look! Bamboo and Rico days!
9) “Ang Huling El Bimbo” by Eraserheads
Of course, the list wouldn’t be complete without the all-time Eraserheads hit. Hello Paraluman, your first love.
