FHM's Projections For The 2018 NBA All-Star Starting 5s

Team Unicorn vs Team Unguardable

What are your thoughts on this year's NBA All-Star Eastern and Western Conference Starters?

LeBron James finished as the leading overall fan vote-getter (2,638,294), while Stephen Curry topped the West (2,379,494) to be named as captains, who will draft their respective teammates—no matter the conference—from the All-Star pool. The rest of the starters were decided by a vote from the fans, players, and the media.

This new format was implemented to hopefully raise the competition that has been lacking in the midseason exhibition. The selection, which reportedly will not be televised, also makes for compelling storylines, like James recruiting his primary antagonist (Durant) or past ally (Irving).

Once FHM got hold of the announcement, we put a lot of thought into the best possible teams assembled. The two squads below are as good as it gets:

Team Unicorn

LeBron James
Kevin Durant
Anthony Davis
Giannis Antetokounmpo
Joel Embiid

It would be easier if Giannis gets to pick, so we could put DeMarcus in here. But LeBron is more than a legendary creature, so who's not complaining? Ah, imagine the lob combinations that can be thrown: LBJ to KD, The Brow to The Process, and vice versa. Due to the unfair size advantage, Team Unicorn is as dangerous on defense as they are on offense—basically the Milwaukee Bucks on steroids. This is what the Monstars (of Space Jam notoriety) would probably look like in real life.

What we want to see: The Greek Freak posterizing Chef Curry for the third time.

Team Unguardable

Stephen Curry
James Harden
Kyrie Irving
DeMarcus Cousins
DeMar DeRozan

The amount ball-handling, shooting, and skill that this group boasts is incomprehensible. Try stopping James and Kyrie off the dribble, DeMar from midrange, DeMarcus in the paint, and Steph from anywhere on the court. The opposing team can play defense all they want, but it's futile against these five. Last year, both teams made history for most points by both teams in an All-Star Game (374). Don't be suprised if Team Unguardable sets a new record by themselves.

What we want to see: Uncle Drew breaking The King's ankles a la Brandon Knight.

Who wins? Let's wait for the reserves, which will be chosen by coaches and revealed next week.
