With a 105-95 drubbing of the Miami Heat earlier this week, the Dallas Mavericks finally nabbed their first NBA title, the first in franchise history.

It came at the expense of a Miami team favored heavily to win it all, with the trio of Dwayne Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh supposedly leading the way.

With all the media hype focused on the Miami triumvirate, people have talked more about what Miami has failed to do rather than what Dallas did to win. And that’s just how it’s been for this “island of misfit toys” as General Manager Donnie Nelson called them. 

They don’t have the star appeal that Miami has, nor do they have the bold predictions of winning it all. They just went in, did what they had to do, and eventually got what they deserved.

Let’s look at how this team finally vindicated itself.
