It's time to really, really say goodbye to BJ Penn now. The once-retired former champion has officially called it a career after losing to Frankie Edgar at The Ultimate Fighter 19 Finale last Monday, July 7 (Manila time).
"This is the end," BJ announced at the post-fight press conference. "I was just going to see how far I can take it. I was going to find out if I'm still hungry. When the fight started to get real tough, I realized that it takes a very high energy level to compete with the top people in the world. I can sit here and say a thousand times that the sport has passed me by."

It's always tough to see an MMA icon walk away from the Octagon for good, but the good news is we have enough BJ stories to go around. As in, a lot! Read on for some of them and for the things we will miss the most about The Prodigy!
We will never forget your intense demeanor before a fight. We know you wanted people to think of you as a calm dude, but you almost always came off as a psycho when you step inside the cage.
We will never forget the flying knee that pretty much killed Sean Sherk's career. Everybody knows The Muscle Shark was never the same after it. Have you apologized to him yet?
We will never forget the goriest fight in the history of the UFC. You made us fear for Joe Stevenson's life!
We will never forget how you licked Stevenson's blood off your gloves after you submitted him. That was f*cking mental, sir!
We will never forget the haymaker that proved that you are indeed Matt Hughes's ultimate contrapelo.
