Here's a feel-good story to start your day on the right note: Yesterday, June 10, our country's brave boxers added five gold medals to our tally at the ongoing 28th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Singapore.

Nineteen-year-old Eumir Felix Marcial scored the most impressive victory as he knocked out Jia Wei Tay of Singapore with a jaw-breaking left straight in the second round of the finals in the Men's Welterweight category.

The southpaw from Zamboanga then confidently raised both his arms in appreciation towards the cheering Pinoy crowd as he waited for the official announcement of his convincing victory.

Bantamweight Mario Fernandez also earned a stoppage victory with a TKO of Thailand's Tanes Ongjunta in the third round of their gold medal fight.

Fernandez, who hails from Bukidnon, dropped Onjunta with a swift left hook to the chin. The Thai managed to get back to his feet but the referee decided that he had seen enough and waved off the fight in favor of the Filipino.

Earlier the same day, Clark Bautista bombarded Mohamed Hanurdeen Hamid of Singapore with fast punches and heavy combinations to secure a 2-1 decision win. Bautista's relentless attacking style resulted to a closed left eye for the Singaporean and another gold medal for the country in our signature international boxing division, the Men's Flyweight.
