The highly awaited rematch between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin is one step closer to being finalized after the Mexican boxer’s camp has agreed to contract details for the fight that could well be the biggest boxing event of 2018.

Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez, who also manages Alvarez told the LA Times that they’ve reviewed the contract for the rematch set during Mexico’s annual Cinco de Mayo holiday. “We’ve gone through three revisions. I'm hoping for the last revision and we'll see. All the major points have been worked out,” he said.

There’s no rematch clause for this fight though Gomez is confident that a third match between the two boxing superstars will eventually happen. “We want to concentrate on getting this done and then we can talk about a third fight later,” he said.

As for the venue, the event organizers have received a sizable offer for the fight to be held at the Madison Square Garden in New York City, but it’s highly likely that it will be done again at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
