Hours before Portugal’s crucial match against Hungary in Group F of the UEFA Euro 2016 a video showing football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo abruptly ending an ambush interview has emerged online.
While Portugal was getting ready for the upcoming game, Diogo Torres of CMTV took the opportunity to interview the Portuguese captain about the match.
Speaking in Portuguese, Torres asked, “Ronaldo, ready for the game today?”
Without saying a single word, the Real Madrid forward immediately grabbed the microphone and threw it into a nearby lake.
In an interview with BBC, Torres said,” I'm not sure why he did it. I think it was a momentary thing. I think he would not have done it if he had thought about it.”
Ronaldo’s actions might have something to do with his past issues with CMTV’s tabloid newspaper, Correro de Manha. According to The Standard, Ronaldo had successfully sued the paper before for printing details about his private life.
Another reason could be the circumstances coming into the match, as Portugal needs to beat or tie with Hungary to advance into the knockout phase of the tournament—a feat which they eventually did hours later as the match ended in a 3-3 draw, with two of Portugal’s goals coming from Ronaldo.
Maybe the incident was all Ronaldo needed to finally lead his team to victory.
