If there's one thing we've learned from watching Manny Pacquiao's pre-fight pressers, it's that he just can't seem to stare down his opponent without busting out a smile or a giggle. The man's a beast in the ring but there's no chance in hell he'll win a staring contest.
Case in point:
So when we tuned in yesterday to the #PressConOfTheCentury, we sort of expected Manny to do something comedic yet again once he was face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather. Surprise! Our country's bet remained calm and composed. Whereas he was like a little kid in previous press conferences, he acted like a mature guy this time around, only smiling confidently all throughout the event.
Maybe it's the fact that a fight of this magnitude deserves no horsing around, or maybe he's just super serious about wanting to do his fans a favor by knocking Money May out cold. Whatever the case, we're a bit relieved to see that he's as focused as ever.
The same story goes for Floyd. The undefeated champion looked calm and dead serious during the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao presser. He didn't display any sort of raucuos behavior—which is kind of surprising given his history of "getting it on" with his opponents—even before their ring date.
We mean, do you remember when...
Mayweather whispered sweet nothings to Shane Mosley's ear during their pre-fight press conference in 2010?
Mosley didn't back down though; he kept up with Mayweather's verbal assault
How about the shoving match he got into with Ricky Hatton back in 2007?
Last year's tension-filled Mayweather-Maidana II presser ended with this?
Even the great Oscar De La Hoya wasn't spared from Mayweather's taunts?
Mayweather showcased his trash-talking skills during a TV ad shoot for his fight with Robert Guerrero two years ago? He went on...
Good thing Mayweather has the actual skills to back up his words! And we admit, we kinda miss this version of him given how relatively boring the #PressConOfTheCentury turned out to be. But we have another theory why he was so calm yesterday: He's saving all his energy for the big day! Better take note of that, Manny!
