PLDT head honcho Manny V. Pangilinan gives us one heckuva pa-birthday as he organizes yet another awesome basketball exhibition match between Gilas Pilipinas and a handful of NBA stars! The Last Home Stand, which will take place this Tuesday and Wednesday (July 22 and 23) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, features a marquee matchup between the best the Philippines and the NBA have to offer. Our national team couldn't have found a more perfect pre-FIBA World Cup test!
For starters, NBA superstars James Harden, Blake Griffin, Paul George, and Damian Lillard have all signed on to play. They will be accompanied by 2014 NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, Terrence Ross, Brandon Jennings, Tyson Chandler, Nick Johnson, and Ed Davis. MVP, may galit ka yata sa Gilas eh!
Gilas Pilipinas on the other hand will be composed of Jimmy Alapag, L.A. Tenorio, Jeff Chan, Jayson Castro, Gary David, Ranidel De Ocampo, Gabe Norwood, Marcus Douthit, Larry Fonacier, June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, and Marc Pingris. Something tells us the boys have been waiting for this kind of challenge for a long time.
Yes, it’s just an exhibition game, but if Paul George’s tweet is any indication of what we could expect come jump ball time, mukhang bawal muna ang autographs:MVP, meanwhile, sure knows how NOT to pressure our boys:
We can't wait to see how this match will pan out, given how talented and competitive these guys are. So with that in mind, we list down some of the things we'd like to see during the game!
Paul George Going H.A.M. Every Time He Sees The Rim
That's Hard As A M*otherf*cker, our urban language-challenged friends. If Paul can do this to a jawing LeBron, imagine what he can do to Gilas (that's if he stays true to his tweet).
...Or Forgetting That He's NOT In A Slam Dunk Contest
Which we really won't mind at all
Just don't forget to dribble, alright?
