3. Load up on cheap points. Of course, not every team in the UAAP has a forward that can shoot from the outside, so it becomes imperative for teams' hoping to beat the Blue Eagles to score on the cheap. That means shooting well from beyond the arc, coasting to easy fast break baskets, or punishing Ateneo from the free throw line. Most of the success enjoyed by La Salle, FEU, and UE against Ateneo were courtesy of easy baskets on fast breaks. Meanwhile, UP not only was white-hot from three-point range against the Eagles, they also converted layups, off sloppy turnovers committed by Ateneo during its big run in the third quarter.

4. Attack Buenafe. Ryan Buenafe is perhaps the Eagles' best perimeter player, but the dirty little secret is out: He's a horrible, horrible defender! Green Archer Joshua Webb's awesome game versus Ateneo? Scored against Buenafe. UP swingman Marky Lopez's career game? Ditto. To compensate, Norman Black has taken to playing Bacon Austria and Kirk Long heavy minutes. But while they're better defenders, none of those guys have the offensive explosiveness of Buenafe.

Of course, none of these things are easy to execute against a powerful team like Ateneo, but no one said beating the defending champs was easy. Well, except if you're UP.
