Terrence Romeo. He's having a swell time, isn't he? He's gained notoriety in recent months for the way he's been making defenders dance at FIBA's three-on-three tournaments and at the 2015 FIBA Asia contests. Dude's ballin'.
Last Monday night, January 4, the former UAAP MVP added a page to his growing legend: He scored a career-high 41 points. Romeo torched their PBA Philippine Cup semifinal opponents, the Alaska Aces, with his 12-of-21 shooting, four assists, and two steals. His scoring run included six three-pointers made out of 11 attempted.
Exciting numbers for the 23-year-old. Even more exciting? Seeing how he made those baskets. This Caviteño offered a dazzling array of crossovers, stepbacks, and what Filipino commentators love calling as "alahoy/dipsy-doo" shots.
We'd like to call it Stephen Curry-like. And our reasons why include...
These incredible long-range bombs
Floaters that seemingly have no business going in
General ball wizardy and the kind of trickery that still gives Chris Paul nightmares
Here's a second look:
And this clutch three-pointer with a 47 ticks remaining that snuffed the fire out of an Alaska team that was trying to make one last comeback
Conclusion: Romeo is really good. About the only thing that marred his performance? His eight turnovers. And tonight, we'll see if the star guard can correct those mistakes as his team faces Alaska in Game 2 of their semis matchup.
