Things were looking good for Kawhi Leonard after making his comeback on the court when the San Antonio Spurs faced the Dallas Mavericks in December. Despite losing, the Spurs were quite happy that a healthy Kawhi was seen dishing out some familiar moves as he scored 13 points.
It’s just too bad that Kawhi couldn’t keep the momentum going after the two-time defensive player once again went down with another injury after winning against the Phoenix Suns. The Spurs later on announced that Kawhi would be sitting out their game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Needless to say, Kawhi’s absence was felt after the heroics of LaMarcus Aldridge and veteran guard Manu Ginobili weren’t enough to stop the Blazers in their tracks as they suffered a heartbreaking 111-110 loss.
Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, for his part, revealed that the 26-year-old NBA champ and Finals MVP was diagnosed with a partial tear on his left shoulder, an injury that could potentially sideline the star for more games.
Just last week, Kawhi said that he wasn’t at 100 percent yet, but was working on getting back in shape.
Kawhi has missed 27 games while he was recovering from a quadriceps tendinopathy injury he got in the previous season. It’s not yet clear when he will be back but Popovich maintains a positive outlook and doesn’t see Kawhi’s new injury as something serious.
