All Kevin Durant had to say was "I love Manila" for the crowd at the Big Dome to go wild. The two-time NBA champion and one-time Most Valuable Player is currently in town for the second time, as part of a tour with Nike to grace Filipino fans with his presence.
The Golden State Warriors superstar immersed himself in the basketball-crazy nation through a champion's welcome in Bonifacio Global City, where fans braved the erratic weather just to get a glimpse of him. A group of select ballers were also fortunate enough to be trained by Durant himself, before he and his longtime collaborator, Nike Basketball Footwear Designer Leo Chang, met with members of the media for a quick chat.
KD, who recently renewed his contract with the defending champions, talked about life after his second title, being able to add DeMarcus Cousins ("We ruined it"), players starting to "take control of their careers," and the KD 11 with Chang, among other topics. His entourage then headed to the Smart Araneta Coliseum for the KD Nike Hyper Court Team All-Star Challenge, which saw Durant's team face off against an All-Star collection of the country's top college players.
Despite losing in the exhibition match, 85-82, the nine-time All-Star didn't fail to give his local following a good show—whether he was putting the dribble moves on his unlucky defender or hilariously reacting to a botched play. "It was my first time back on the court. I'm too tired," Durant exclaimed after the game. Going out of his way to personally experience the Pinoys' love for the game just made everyone appreciate him even more. Much love, KD!
