If you thought the reported Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao rematch was crazy, just wait until you hear this.
On the heels of his tumultuous victory over Conor McGregor at UFC 229, UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov (27-0) has expressed his desire to fight the retired boxing legend, who is also undefeated (50-0). Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe was with the Russian MMA star when the latter issued the challenge.
Floyd has since responded to Khabib's invitation on social media, and—in true "Money" fashion—leaned towards saying yes...but only at the right price. Meanwhile, "The Eagle" has already dismissed one possible location for their match, referring to the Nevada Athletic Commission withholding his fight payment ($2 million).
The common denominator for the two competitors is their utter domination of McGregor. Before the Irish superstar tapped out to Nurmagomedov earlier this month, he suffered a TKO loss to Mayweather late last year. If anything, it would be interesting to see where this fight of champions will be held: in a ring or in the Octagon?
While both fighters seem excited about the dream bout (and huge payday), the same cannot be said about the respective fans of boxing and MMA.
