The Bulls easily beat the Kyrie-less Celtics 108-85, even as Al Horford stepped up with 15 points to try and fill in for Irving’s production.
Irving was out for the night after he suffered from a left quad contusion during their recent win against the Detroit Pistons, where he finished with 16 points in 34 minutes.
The Celtics’ offensive centerpiece apparently banged his knees in this play:
Aside from Irving, the status of Celtics forward Marcus Morris also remains in question due to recurring problems with his knee. The team has yet to issue an update to their injury report but Irving’s situation doesn’t seem as serious as we first thought so we can probably expect him to be back to his usual ankle-breaking business soon.
Despite these issues, the Celtics are currently enjoying the league’s second best spot at 23-6. They also managed to come out strong in the Eastern Conference, with a record-setting 16-game winning streak even after losing Gordon Hayward to a horrific injury early on this season.
