The best basketball player on the planet (Sorry, Steph) is on the cover of Sports Illustrated after being hailed as its 2016 Sportsperson of the Year.

This is LeBron James' second time to be given the said title (the only person aside from Tiger Woods), the previous one on the heels of his first NBA championship with the Miami Heat in 2012.

Writer Lee Jenkins had the enviable task of doing a profile on the King, while editors provided the rationale on the decision to bestow upon him the honor over several other history-making sports figures, the likes of defending World Series champs Chicago Cubs—after 108 years—and Premier League titleholders Leicester City FC.

But what made the difference this time around and set him apart from SI's other candidates, is his monumental fulfillment of a promise: bringing his hometown its first NBA championship, and lifting the so-called "Cleveland curse."

The editors wrote: "This award celebrates northeast Ohio as much as its does the region's favorite son. In a very crowded year of Sportsperson candidates, the connection between player and community, his community, can be fairly described as the tiebreaking vote."

Indeed, even the biggest hater would be reduced to tears at the sight of LeBron breaking down on the hardwood and screaming at the top of his lungs, "Cleveland! This is for you!"

Congratulations, King. Another well-deserved accolade.
