Senator Manny Pacquiao, who has been criticized for his horrendous attendance in Congress when he was Sarangani representative, told ABS-CBN News on July 28 that he will do his best to lessen his absences in the Senate. "Sinisikap natin 'yan. Dahil unang-una, wala namang magbabawal sa akin na mag-absent ako," he said. The boxer-turned-senator added that he's actually motivated by all the criticisms being hurled at him. "Nakaya ko ngang maging champion sa boxing dahil sa disiplina ko, 'yan pa kaya na hindi ako mabubugbog?"
“Pero ang goal ko talaga ay magampanan ang trabaho ko,” he added.
When asked about the exact date of his upcoming fight Pacquiao said, "I want to make sure na 'yong bakasyon ng session, matapat doon, so October hanggang November." Pacquiao is scheduled to fight a yet to be determined opponent in his comeback match on November 5.
Prior to winning the elections, Pacquiao stated that he needs to show that he is serious in serving the public through his attendance. "Ang inisip ko, kapag pumasok ako kailangan seryoso, walang absent, palaging papasok, dahil buong bansa ang responsibilidad mo,'' he said.
