The first close match in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals revealed a Barangay Ginebra San Miguel hero in Scottie Thompson, a San Miguel Beermen weak point and, finally, an interesting championship series.
Thompson's 20 points and 11 rebounds gave Ginebra the win, 87-83, despite Renaldo Balkman's monster game (34 pts 20 reb) for SMB. But they weren't the only headliners when the final buzzer sounded—albeit for the wrong reason. Former PBA MVP Arwind Santos provided a fitting end to his Game 5 disappearing act (0-10 fg 0-7 3pt), chucking a shot from near the logo with still under 10 seconds left.
The 37-year-old, who usually gets the last laugh in an asaran session, found himself on the wrong end of the taunting and trash-talk from the most-followed PBA meme Facebook pages. Expect Mr. Bagyo to bounce back—both physically and mentally—in the Beermen's Wednesday do-or-die against the Barangay.
