After a less than two-month break, the Philippine Basketball Association opens its 38th season this Sunday, Sept. 30, to once again give basketball junkies all over the country their regular dose of hoop nirvana.
The PBA is coming off a record-breaking year, where it grossed over P114 million in gate receipts, and Asia’s first professional cage league is expected to match—or even surpass—the remarkable feat this season. “Our product is the game. We’re looking forward with excitement that we could build on the gains we had from last season,” said PBA commissioner Chito Salud during the press launch of the new season at the Diamond Hotel last Wednesday.
After two well-funded, powerhouse teams won the first two conferences (Talk N’ Text and B-Meg) and one of the league’s so-called small teams (Rain Or Shine) bagging a breakthrough title in the season-ending conference of Season 37, which teams will win it this year? That and more queries can only be answered in the next few months.
For now, here’s a preview of the PBA’s Season 38.
