While we can't quite comprehend his thirst for picking on those hapless furry creatures, what we do know is that the 29-year-old center has a knack for the inexplicable.
With the playoffs finally here—where weirder stuff have happened—and the Boston Celtics-Chicago Bulls series in the first round turning out be a slugfest, it didn't take long before Lopez made his presence felt.
A couple of minutes into the third quarter of Game 4, the Bulls center lost a shoe following a tip-in. Celtics forward Jae Crowder went on to toss the sneaker out of bounds, to which Lopez responded to with an intentional foul before pulling off the stunt that left everyone dumbfounded.
Did he tie or untie Crowder's laces? The NBA's Replay Center will have to stay a little late at the office, if they decide to fuss over such antics.
The important thing is that Boston didn't seem to lose focus after the bizarre sequence, as the visiting team rolled to a 104-95 victory, tying its heated opening-round matchup with Chicago at two games apiece.
As for Lopez, his team will need more from him—8 points, 7 rebounds in 21 minutes—than petty shenanigans if they hope to steal this one from the Celtics. *cough Rajon Rondo cough*
