It’s a bittersweet moment for the PBA’s iconic “Fast and Furious” duo after Jayjay Helterbrand finally decided to hit the brakes to bid the league and his partner, Mark Caguioa, farewell following a highly successful career capped off with a championship.

Helterbrand, also known as Mr. Fast, announced in an exclusive interview with CNN Philippines that he is calling it quits after their team captured the Governors’ Cup title last Friday. “That would be my last game as a player but hopefully I’ll still be around and maybe have a spot as an assistant coach or something later on down the line,” he said.

It also seems like the 41-year-old veteran guard has already made up his mind based on his reply when asked whether he might consider playing one last season for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.

“I’ve had a great career. I have no regrets in my career whatsoever and I think this is the perfect time for me to hang it up on my own terms. I don’t want to retire from basketball because of injuries or whatever else. And winning a championship right before you retire, I think that’s the best way to go out and I’m really happy with my decision,” he said.
