Many were surprised to see former Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Director General Joel Villanueva's surge in the senatorial race of the recently concluded national elections.

At the end of the canvassing, the man branded as "Tesdaman" finished second—with a whopping 18,459,222 votes—and guaranteed himself a seat in the Senate of the Philippines. This, despite Villanueva only gaining traction in the latter surveys.

Although it seems that politics isn't the only thing he is winning at, according to this video posted by PBA Memes recently:

This probably explains it:

Tesdaman was actually a Growling Tiger, and was part of the University of Santo Tomas team that won back-to-back titles in the UAAP Men's Basketball Championship in 1994 and 1995. One commenter even noted that Villanueva was the team's third-string point guard, behind Siot Tanquingcen and Bal David.

He also got to represent the country in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (1994) and the PH Youth Team in the Asian Basketball Championship.

Here's hoping that hard work in the hardcourt carries over to the senate!
