How about that? It looks like the Ateneo Lady Eagles were able to find the "lamat" on the De La Salle Lady Spikers' great wall yesterday as the spikers from Katips managed to bag Game One of the UAAP Season 76 Women's Volleyball Finals! Good job, ladies!
It was certainly a scintillating affair—just as we expected from a match between bitter rivals—that saw palm-numbing spikes, deep digs, and epic blocks that deserved Mutombo's trademark finger-wag. At the end of the game though, it was the Lady Eagles who emerged victorious via a four-set win, 17-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-20, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The victory snapped the Lady Spikers' remarkable 30-game winning streak (dating to last season) and marked the Lady Eagle's seventh straight victory. It also turned the Finals into a virtual best-of-three affair. You see, La Salle had a thrice-to-beat advantage (Ateneo has a twice-to-beat incentive; we know anlabo), but with Ateneo's win, both teams now need two more Ws to get the crown.
And if Game One's any indication, we're in for an absolute doozy of a series.
Because there's nothing like watching tall, athletic women whack a ball in a nerve-wrecking showdown of volleyball smarts and skills, we didn't miss the chance to see it all in the flesh. Yes, we were in the venue (and part of the tilian from the crowd). For our bros who missed the game, we share with you the awesome sights we witnessed via the gallery below!
