Sure, local hoops aficionados have the ongoing 37th William Jones Cup—wherein our national team, Gilas Pilipinas, has been straight ballin'—to quench our thirst for some hardwood action. Yet no one could deny that most of us are still craving for more basketball, the likes of the NBA (which opens on October 27) and PBA (October 18) offer.

Thankfully, UAAP Season 78 men's senior basketball is opening tomorrow at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, with the UE Red Warriors going up against this season's hosts, the UP Fighting Maroons, to kick off festivities at 2 p.m., followed by an equally anticipated matchup between the Adamson Soaring Falcons and the UST Growling Tigers two hours later.

But before you don your alma mater's—or, for non-UAAP students and alumni, your favorite team's—colors in support, might as well brush up on the ABCs related to the competing collegiate ball squads.

FHM cooked up this quick-fire primer so you know what to watch out for (and so you can also act as the resident "analyst" whenever your clueless friends ask you what's up) this season.
