God bless Urijah Faber. He steps in on Sunday's (February 2; Manila time) UFC Bantamweight title fight on only three weeks' notice, following an announcement that the returning champion, Dominick Cruz, is once again pulling out of the bout due to a groin injury. Faber's opponent: The division's interim champion, the Brazilian Renan Barao, who is currently on a 34-fight unbeaten streak.
So yes sir, this means we're going to see a rematch between two of the most exciting bantamweights in the UFC today. In many ways, this is even better than the initial fight scheduled.
"It was super unexpected to have Dana call me and offer me the opportunity to step in and fight for the championship," explains Faber. "But when you get an opportunity, you take it. I kept in shape and I feel good all the time, so it didn't take me long before I said, 'let's do it.'"
Barao shares his rival's sentiments. "I felt the adrenaline rush when I knew that I would fight against Faber," he says. "He's a tough guy and he showed us just that during our last fight. But I was better prepared for it." Press play on the video below to see a preview of UFC 169:
