A war of words, that is.
The recent press conference for the non-title fight proved to be as heated as how things would be inside the Octagon come March 6 (Manila time). While both men tried to answer every question thrown to them by the press, the blatant, cuss-filled verbal jabs made the news conference—held at the UFC Gym in Torrance, California—explicitly amusing.
From Diaz's shocking dope claims to McGregor's unrivalled arrogance, here are the best fire-starting fighting words from UFC 196's main protagonists:
McGregor on what this particular fight means:
"Really, it doesn't matter what weight division or what belt is on the line because really, I should create my own belt. Because I am, in myself, my own belt. It doesn't matter if it's a featherweight, lightweight, or welterweight—it's the McGregor belt. So, that's it. I'm fighting for my own belt."
McGregor on Nate Diaz:
"I like Nick's little bro. How can you not like him? He's like a little cholo gangsta from the hood. But at the same time he coaches kids' jiu-jitsu on a Sunday morning and goes on bike rides with the elderly. He makes gun signs with the right hand and animal balloons with the left hand."
"F*ck you, f*ck your belt. I don't give a f*ck what you say mother f*cker. F*ck your b*tch-ass belt, too."
Diaz on performance-enhancing drugs:
"They're all on steroids... Everybody is on steroids. The whole UFC. Everybody... You and [Rafael] dos Anjos and [Anthony] Pettis and everybody."
"Don't be putting my name with steroids. I'm major against that. Don't put my name [with] the name of steroids, Nate... I'm not on no steroids. What the f*ck are you talking about? Your two teammates were on steroids. Your two boys. The Skrap Pack. Remember that? Did you know they were taking that stuff?"
"I'm just an animal."
McGregor on how Diaz would fare versus him:
"His soft body and his lack of preparation, he will not be able to handle the ferocity. End of the first [round] I feel he will be put away. I respect Nate, don't get me wrong... There's a respect there between us but it's business in there and business is business. He will be KO'd inside the first round."
McGregor on his opponent's gains:
"Congratulations, you're rich now."
"Congratulations to you mother f*cker, I'm the show."
Diaz on McGregor's past opponents:
"You fight midgets. You knocked out three midgets and you're pumped up. I'm a real mother f*king fighter. I've been fighting grownups all the time. I got a 145-pound homeboy that will beat your ass, too."
Unsurprisingly, the beef carried onto Twitter:
McGregor really has his way with words.
Diaz's post might have been made days before he even came face to face with The Notorious, but he mayt have predicted how acrimonious their meeting would be.
