Fight fans, today is a great day as the world's most popular MMA organization, the UFC, finally takes its bloody act to the Philippines.
Unlike that other mega-fight, the UFC Fight Night Manila deal is firmly in place and will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on May 16, 2015. The announcement comes after years of waiting, with rumors of its coming being published by local media outlets as early as 2013.
The announcement was made public via Instagram thru this post:
In a statement released through the official UFC site, executive vice president and general manager of UFC Asia Ken Berger states, “We are thrilled to be kicking off our Asia event calendar in Manila this year. The UFC has a loyal and passionate fan base in the Philippines, and we’re looking forward to bringing the very best of mixed martial arts to Manila for the first time.”
While the organization has yet to let out names for the event's fight card, we are definitely excited to welcome the pinnacle of MMA in our country—the first of the three expected UFC events in Asia this year. The Manila leg is also the sole Southeast Asian destination for the UFC this year, and is a great follow-up to former UFC champ Carlos Condit's visit here in November 2014.
