It was nothing but sweet redemption for last year's runners-up, after the North Carolina Tar Heels turned back the Gonzaga Bulldogs, 71-65, and captured the National Championship in the culminating game of March Madness 2017.
UNC will finally be able to put that Kris Jenkins heartbreaker behind them, as the team pulled out all the stops in the endgame this time around to spoil Gonzaga's dream campaign. Tied at 65 with a little less than two minutes remaining, the Tar Heels clamped down on the Bulldogs and scored the last six points of the contest.
In an ugly match that featured 44 fouls and 52 free throws, it was point guard Joel Berry II's game that turned out beautifully. Despite a couple of bum ankles, the Tar Heels junior posted a solid 22 points, 6 assists, and 3 rebounds, on his way to being named the 2017 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player.
UNC became the fourth team to win the National Championship after coming up short in the previous year, and the third collegiate program with the most trophies at six. Their opponents, on the other hand, have nothing to be ashamed of, especially after making it to the semifinal round for the first time in Gonzaga history.
All eyes were on the heavily fought game, including NBA players and casual observers. That said, FHM compiled the top reactions to the UNC-Gonzaga matchup. One thing's for sure: Tar Heels alum Michael Jordan will be seen in tears, this time for the right reason.
As usual, Bleacher Report is on top of its game when it comes to witty graphics
Meanwhile, UNC Coach Roy Williams hasn't stopped dancing up until this very moment
99 percent of the posts were about the sensitive refs and excessive officiating
Of course, MJ had to have his share of the spotlight despite not being there at the game
Is this the new Crying Jordan?
At least Gonzaga won this department
