Get ready to judge the criminals. Our favorite badass cop from the future, Judge Dredd, is making a big comeback to a screen near you although it won’t be in film form this time around.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new adaptation will instead be a live-action TV series titled Judge Dredd: Mega City One.
“This is one of those seminal sci-fi properties that seems to only become more and more relevant with age. Not only is it a rich world with biting social commentary, but it’s also fun as hell!” the show’s executive producer Mark Stern said.
The story will revolve around a team of judges including Dredd while they perform their tasks as judge, jury and executioner in the crime-ridden 22nd century.
No information has been revealed yet about the release date, where it will be shown, and who the actors are, but fans are speculating Karl Urban, who starred in the latest Judge Dredd movie, as a possible lead.
If it pushes through, the show will be a 40th anniversary tribute of sorts to the 2000 AD comics way back in 1977 where Judge Dredd made his debut.
Judge Dredd has previously been adapted twice in the big screen with Sylvester Stallone starring in the 1995 version, while Urban took on the role in the more recent 2012 iteration.
