Fellas, the unthinkable has happened: Muppet sweethearts Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy have officially called it quits.
After four decades of getting (fiber and felt) frisky, the svelte swine and the chatty croaker have decided to part ways. The two made the announcement through their Twitter and Facebook pages.
Reporters caught up with the two at the recent Television Critics Association summer press tour and Kermit described the process as "day-by-day, moment-by-moment," and said that they've separated "romantically."
Miss Piggy, on the other hand, said the breakup is the least of her worries, even pointing out that she has "no problem working with my ex, OK? It's fine."
"You know what? Dating moi is like flying close to the sun," she continued. "It was inevitable that Kermit would drop down to the ground while I stayed in the heavens." Ouch.
It has been a roller-coaster ride for the two, from when they first met in the 1979 musical road film, The Muppet Movie, with Miss Piggy falling for Kermit first. He eventually grew to love her, marrying her twice in separate movies—The Muppets Take Manhattan and last year's Muppets Most Wanted.
The split really came as a surprise, which is why some are viewing it as just a marketing ploy, given that the two are about to work together in the upcoming TV series, The Muppets, and Miss Piggy's late-night talk show, though the classy cob roller has already refuted it.

As for Kermit, it looks like he has already found himself a new "babe."
