Eastbound & Down is a new HBO comedy series premiering in the Philippines this December. It's a long time coming too, as we've long been waiting for this show since its 2009 debut.
For those not yet acquainted with Eastbound, the show centers around Kenny Powers (Danny McBride), a washed-up professional baseball pitcher forced to return to hometown middle school in California as a substitute physical education teacher.
Donning a rock star attitude, Powers thinks he still has what it takes to return to the pros, encouraging everyone to treat him like a celebrity in the process. He of course, get no respect in return.
We cannot wait to see McBride in action. If his work in most of the Apatow Jew Crew movies (along with Will Ferell, Paul Rudd, and Seth Rogen) is any indication, not to mention the cult status his Kenny Powers has earned—Marilyn Manson and Will Ferrell are just two of his big-time fans—Eastbound is guaranteed thigh-slapping funny.
The first season only consists of six episodes, but is now secured for its second and third season.
With this awesome show coming up, it's best we get to know more about the dude behind the genius of Kenny Powers. Behold: the four funniest characters Danny McBride has ever played.
As Red in Pineapple Express
Danny plays Red, a fat pot dealer who exclusively sells the Pineapple Express to the lead guys. Dude gets his head smashed with a bong pipe, gets shot several times throughout the film, and is left in a warehouse that explodes, only to make it out alive in the end, dropping only a cat nap after the bad guys are caught. He credits pot for his awesome endurance and prolonged life.
McBride Quote: “I'm trying to decide how stoned I am and just how on the verge of death am I right now. Like, am I seeing shit because I'm stoned or because I have no blood left in my body?” [After getting shot seven times]
